Student credit cards generally come in two flavors:

(1) A prepaid student credit card
(2) A traditional student credit card

The traditional student credit card is basically the same as a normal credit card, however spending limits, and the maximum balance are much lower. For example, a student credit card may allow for a maximum balance of $3,000, whereas a traditional credit card may go up from $20,000. Some well designed student credit card programs may allow the students more time to pay off their credit card balance, wait until the graduate from college, or other custom niche to assist the student.

Student credit cards are also an excellent way to begin building credit history and establishing a credit score.
